Since its debut, AutoCAD has been one of the most successful CAD applications. For the first 20 years of its existence, it was the only desktop CAD program on the market. Over the past 20 years, however, the market has expanded to include CAD applications for mobile devices, web-based solutions, and cloud-based service. This article covers AutoCAD, which includes AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD LT for Windows (formerly named AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD Architecture for Windows). Autodesk describes AutoCAD as the industry's leading CAD program, and that claim can be supported by looking at sales and accolades. But is that claim just marketing hype? Do other leading CAD programs beat AutoCAD at their own game? Let's take a closer look at AutoCAD's strengths, weaknesses, and how it compares to other popular CAD programs. Size and Price AutoCAD comes in three versions: AutoCAD Classic, AutoCAD LT, and AutoCAD LT for Windows. AutoCAD Classic is the full-featured version, available for both Windows and Macintosh systems. It is priced at $499 per seat, or about$1,700 for a license for five users.
